Review

I purchased this book to read together with my son who is currently working on the topic of Greek Mythology at school. When he showed an interest in learning more at home I thought it would be a great opportunity to spend quality time together whilst learning about something interesting.

I have very limited knowledge about Greek Mythology, I don't recall learning about it at school so I needed a book that would cover the basics and be interesting for both children and adults. After a little research I found this one and I'm really pleased with it.

The pages are bright and colourful with beautiful illustrations which kept my son Finley (age 9) interested and helped him to imagine what the gods could look like. I liked the way that there were pages of snapshot information about the Greek Gods / Goddesses which are then followed up with more in-depth stories and information. The information on how the gods were connected (e.g. parents, siblings and sposes) was helpful too. The language used was just right for older children and adults so it was perfect for my son and I to read together, most of the book he was able to read to me with needing only a little help to pronounce some words (which we actually asked Alexa to help pronounce for us), I'd probably say children aged 8+ would find this book useful.

The book can be picked up and read at random in parts or from cover to cover which is really helpful. The glossary and index were really useful when we wanted to look up specific Greek Gods that he had heard mentioned at school.

Reading this book with my son has actually got me really interested in learning more about Greek Mythology so I will be on the look out now for more books to educate me, ones aimed at adults interested in the academic study of Greek Mythology. If you have any recommendations please so let me know!

One thing that I think would have been really helpful would be the phonic sounding out of the Greek Gods / Goddesses names written under the names to help us pronounce them correctly.
