My Review

I have admitted before that I was not a big fan of historical fiction, however, more recently I've read some wonderful novels with historical settings. Including this one!

I've not read many novels set in the second world war and if I'm honest I was never really one for history so I know very little about it. This didn't stop me from becoming invested in both the characters and the setting of the story. It was so beautifully written that I was able to follow along without feeling lost, it was a pleasure to read.

The characters were really well built, I loved reading about the life of Sarah Gillespie, I really felt for her and her poor luck but felt she was a great strong female lead. Reading this fictional novel gave me a whole new understanding of the sorts of things that those living through the second world war went through.

Though I was able to predict the main plot twists I still enjoyed them and the story as a whole. It went along nicely, I didn't feel it was too slow or too pacey. It was just right for the type of story.

I would highly recommend this title to any fans of historical fiction, of novels set in the second world war and also to anyone who enjoys a relaxing read, something you can cosy up with of an evening and not become stressed or agitated with. A read that doesn't require you to over think, the story is really well set out so you are able to enjoy it for what it is rather than stress out over the language or the plot (something which a few of the books I'm reading lately have forced me to do, so this was a welcome break for my brain!)
