Drinking Custard by Lucy Beaumont | Book Review | Random Things Tours

I'm writing todays review as part of the Random Things Tour. Thank you to them and to Lucy Beaumont for sending me a copy of this book to read and review.

Description

From TV's award-winning comedy mum, Lucy Beaumont, comes her hilarious debut on the trials and tribulations of motherhood. Known for her sharp, witty and surreal view on everyday life, Lucy shares the unpredictable craziness of being a mum in this brilliant and laugh-out-loud 'mumoir'. Mums everywhere will recognise the madness of it all.

Like when Lucy was hospitalised during her third trimester with chest pains but it turned out to be a burrito. Or when she was so tired at the park she forgot her own child's name. Heart-warming and laugh-out-loud funny, Drinking Custard also captures Lucy's marriage to comedian Jon Richardson, as they navigate Lucy's raging pregnancy hormones and balk at pram prices together.

Get ready to make room on mum's bookshelf for Drinking Custard to sit alongside other mum classics such as Why Mummy Drinks, Hurrah For Gin! and The Unmumsy Mum.

My Review

A seriously brilliant laugh and spit your coffee out sort of book.

I was excited to receive this book to read and review as I'm a fan of both Lucy and her husband. I enjoy watching the various comedy shows they are in and they never fail to make me laugh and smile. This book is no exception. As a parent myself I was able to relate to many of the thoughts and feelings contained within this book.

I liked how Lucy used elements of her diary to build this book, it would have been useful to add in the dates I think to give us an idea of the timeline as it jumped along particularly at the start when explaining how she met her husband and the build us to deciding to have a baby.

It was a great idea to add in Jon's 'interruptions' these made the book even more enjoyable. Lucy and Jon are such a fantastic couple, I can only imagine how funny life is going to be growing up with them as parents.

If you are looking for an easy read, one that is going to make you laugh then this is a book for you. I'll be recommending this to fellow parents and to anyone in need of a feel good funny read.

Lucy please continue to keep a diary and do another book with updates on life as a parent as your daughter gets older. I think many of us would love to read an update.

My Rating
